Planes, Trains and Automobiles A Travel Blog Hop with Island Batik
The wonderful folks at Island Batik are hosting another fun blog hop, and I wanted to let you in on it. My offering this week is below. And check out the other talented quilters' posts, and don't forget to enter the drawing for a free stack of fabric (the Rafflecopter drawing is available on all of the blog posts).
If you are just joining the Planes, Trains and Automobiles Blog Hop with all of the fabulously talented Island Batik Ambassadors, welcome! And if you've been hopping already, I'm so glad you hopped on over to Tamarinis. As you may have already gathered, the blog hop loosely interprets the idea of travel through the use of the always gorgeous Island Batik fabrics (I still have to pinch myself - I almost can't believe I get to create with these luscious fabrics every day!!!).
Your stop today? The sunny southern coastline of Florida, and the brilliantly bright Florida Oranges line. Now, in all fairness, I have to admit more than a passing affinity for this line - because Island Batik pulled it together for me AND I got to create a thread collection to coordinate with it through Aurifil - yummy!
So would you like to see some of the projects created with this line that is the very essence of fun summer days? Of course!
Ashley Elayne: This is actually a refresh of a popular pattern.
And a little bit of a back story for you - this was originally made as a gift for a former student and current friend as a graduation present - in her chosen scheme of pinks with some gray and black. So very "Ashely"!
So of course I had to turn the perfect dorm quilt into a pattern, right?!
Catch A Falling Star gave me a chance to play with almost all the colors in the collection (just look at 'em!) because it is a stack friendly pattern. I love how those soft pastels and wonderful brights really twinkle against that rich indigo!
And here's Tidbits, a nice companion piece to Catch a Falling Star. Tidbits is a table set of placemats and table runner (pictured below):
Pick Up Sticks: There's a softer side to Florida Oranges that evokes early mornings, when the sun is soft and the water laps gently against the sand. That's the colors in Pick Up Sticks.
Almost hard to believe this is all the same line, isn't it? But then, what are brights without soft pastels?
This quilt is - I know, I know, it sounds like hype.....- fun to make. It is surprisingly quick and easy to achieve the woven effect with some basic piecing. Hmmm...another great dorm or gift quilt......?
Christmas Cactus:
And then for something kind of in-betweenthe brights and the pastels, here's Christmas Cactus, another project refresh (just ignore the threads on the design wall, please).
This little paper pieced wall hanging is still a personal favorite!
Juxtaposition - another personal favorite, this quilt uses stamps (5" squares) and two backgrounds (dark and light) to play up the lovely textures and prints in the line. What fun!
Samantha Paige:
This is my second Block of the Month, but this time done row by row style. I love the fresh, crisp colors in this one.
And....this one was named after my daughter, my favorite female ever! It is as fun and energetic as she is!
Isn't this a great collection of fabrics, with a terrific range? Oh - and don't forget, there's a quilting thread weight collection to coordinate, so your projects can be finished perfectly!
Thanks for letting me share my obsession with Island Batik and the Florida Oranges line. Oh, if only there were more hours in the day. Then I could make even more lovely projects......
By the way, all of the new Florida Oranges patterns above are available on my website or through Island Batik.
Don't forget to check out the other fabulous projects by the Island Batik Ambassadors. And enter for your chance to win a gorgeous stack of fabrics too! Happy hopping.....
