A Bit About Me
I've been designing for - well, what feels like forever!
Like you, I have a real passion for everything fabric - but especially
batiks and bright fabrics! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE teaching!
I originally stared designing in response to specific requests from some
of my quilt students. The rest, as they say, is history!
Now I am lucky enough to get to design batik fabrics for Island Batik,
and to design projects for such amazing fabric companies as Northcott,
Timeless Treasures, Maywood and Free Spirit! I know - I do pinch
What's my favorite type of piecing? Ah, that's not fair! I love almost all
of them! Yup - I have a fondness for paper piecing, I've been know to
bust out a precut pattern, and sneak in some fusible appliqué on
occasion! But yes, I do have a few favorites (shhh...don't tell the
Some of My Favorite Patterns
I love the look of improvisational piecing, but it provides some unique challenges when trying to turn designs into written patterns. So I came up with the Guided Improv technique - which is what we'll be working on during the Retreat From Home event!
To the Point:
This is one of my favorite guided improv patterns - To the Point! I was going for a mid-century modern vibe. And this particular version is colored in my recent Island Batik fabric line, Kismet.
I love how the brights pop against a black background! The great news is this is MUCH easier than it looks! All made possible by guided improv!
I also love the clean lines of modern quilts, and the quickness of strip piecing. Don't you just adore a project that stitches up quickly?! Not only can you snuggle under it even quicker, but you can also jump on another project!
Hmmm...so wonder what the inspiration for this project was? Yup - as the name suggests, this bright contemporary pattern was inspired by those crosswalks that intersect our busy city streets.
This one is made up in a new shot cotton line by Kaffe Fassett for FreeSpirit. The striped fabrics add an additional note of interest too!
Oh, and yes, I do love paper piecing! I love the ability to get such precise piecing and to create such interesting shapes. It is well worth the trouble of removing the papers at the end!
This is Diamond Dance, also made up in my Kismet line for Island Batik. The pattern offers two sizes, so you can go big or go small and create your own diamonds in a hurry!
Inspired by beaded curtains and faceted jewels on chandeliers, I love how the diamonds drip down the surface of the quilt, and how the negative space calls more attention to the diamonds.
You can find more patterns, thread, tools, and kits in my Pattern Shop!
